The class presents a reasoned history of urban policies from the 1970s to the present day. In connection with the development of outer city problems and more generally of the different forms socio-spatial exclusion, the class presents the different measures adopted in the framework of urban policies and the challenges and implications of those measures. In addition to discussing the multiple mechanisms that characterise urban policy, the latter is presented according to: developments in the contents of its measures, the shifts in targets, changes in its methods of action, evolution of the main issues associated with the implementation of this policy. The aim of the class is to provide students with an analytical framework that will enable them to decipher a policy that is deemed to be illegible, but important in terms of maintaining social cohesion.
